Defining CBD - Terms To Know

When Something Is Wrong With Your Pet - Look At CBD Tinctures From CBDyno.com and The Platinum Pet Formula

Are you confused when it comes to Cannabidiol (CBD)? You're not alone. The amount of information on the Internet related to CBD is abundant, varied and jargon-filled. Here's a road map or primer on CBD to help you navigate the market and inform you about the terms which are often referenced.

  1. Cannabinoids
  2. Any of various, naturally-occurring, biologically-active, chemical constituents (such as cannabidiol (CBD) or cannabinol (CBN) or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) of hemp or cannabis including some (such as CBN & THC) that possess psychoactive (intoxicating) properties and some (such as CBD) which do not possess psychoactive properties (nonintoxicating).
The term "psychoactive" is used in the context of getting the consumer "high". A synonymous term in the context used here is "intoxicating".

  3. Cannabidiol (CBD)
  4. A crystalline, nonintoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp that is sometimes used medicinally.
Note: After THC, cannabidiol is the second most prevalent cannabinoid in cannabis.

  5. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
  6. Either of two physiologically-active isomers from hemp plant resin. THC is the chief intoxicant in marijuana. THC is derived from CBN.

    Conclusions?

    • CBD, CBN and THC are all cannabinoids.
    • THC is psychoactive (intoxicating) and derived from CBN. CBN is also psychoactive (intoxicating).
    • CBD is NON-psychoactive (nonintoxicating). THC is NOT derived from CBD.
  7. Terpenes
  8. Any of a large group of volatile, unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants, especially conifers and citrus trees. Terpenes are also found in hemp. Terpenes are the ingredient in some CBD products which are responsible for flavor and scent. The Platinum Pet Formula contains zero added terpenes.

  9. Isolate
  10. Products that are CBD Isolate refer to isolated CBD molecule, in other words - pure CBD.

  11. Full-Spectrum
  12. Full-spectrum CBD is also known as Broad-spectrum CBD. The term Full-spectrum references a product which contains all the cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant. Full-spectrum CBD products are associated with a coined phrase, "The Entourage Effect”. "The Entourage Effect" refers to a result from these products, presumably, caused by the combination of the different cannabinoids and terpenes.

It's reasonable to question what else, other than CBD, you are getting with a full-spectrum product. . . There are more than 100 different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD and THC are the most abundant cannabinoids in cannabis, but there are also several minor cannabinoids.

  13. Tincture
  14. A mixture in which particles are dispersed throughout the bulk of a fluid. For example, 250mg CBD Isolate (particles) in 1oz of Organic Hemp Seed Oil (fluid) means there are 250mg of the isolated CBD molecule mixed with 1 ounce of organic hemp seed oil.
